Bayern Munich and Real Madrid drew 2-2 in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal clash on Tuesday. Vinicius Junior gave the Spaniards the lead at half-time but Leroy Sane canceled it out just 15 minutes into the second half before Marco Asensio put Madrid back in front just after the hour. Jamal Musiala brought Bayern level again to ensure the tie is delicately poised ahead of next week's return leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Vinicius put in a performance reminiscent of his brilliant showing in the quarter-final second leg at Chelsea as he slid home Ferland Mendy's low cross at the near post with 10 minutes on the clock. It was a goal that hinted at nerves in the Bayern back line after their 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Stuttgart on Saturday.
The game settled down after a frantic opening 15 minutes but Bayern began to create chances and Kingsley Coman was unlucky to see his effort ruled out for offside 10 minutes before the break. They finally forced a way through in the 53rd minute as Sane poked the ball home from close range following Ivan Perisic's flick-on from Joshua Kimmich's corner.
Madrid showed why they are such a threat to Bayern's hopes of a treble as they retook the lead when Asensio volleyed home from Fede Valverde's superb cross, but Musiala once more brought Bayern level just eight minutes later with a strike that deflected past Thibaut Courtois.
The German champions, who had to come from behind to beat Paris Saint-Germain in the previous round after losing the first leg 1-0, can take heart from the fact they have now drawn 10 of their last 11 matches against Real Madrid in all competitions.
