Venezuelan Opposition Leader Henrique Capriles Places His Future in the Hands of Voters

Caracas, Venezuela - October 8, 2024

Former Venezuelan presidential candidate Henrique Capriles has placed the future of his political career in the hands of voters.

Capriles, who lost the 2013 and 2018 presidential elections to the late Hugo Chavez and Nicolas Maduro, respectively, announced on Tuesday that he will run for a third time in the 2024 presidential election.

"I am convinced that now is the time for change in Venezuela," Capriles said at a press conference in Caracas. "I am confident that the people of Venezuela are ready for a new direction, a direction that will lead to a better future for all Venezuelans."

Capriles' announcement comes at a time of great political uncertainty in Venezuela. The country has been struggling with an economic crisis for years, and the Maduro government has been accused of corruption and human rights abuses.

Capriles' candidacy is likely to face stiff competition from Maduro, who is expected to run for re-election. However, Capriles has a strong base of support among Venezuelans who are dissatisfied with the current government.

The 2024 presidential election in Venezuela is scheduled to be held on October 22, 2024.
