Kamensk-Shakhtinsky is a city in Rostov Oblast, Russia, located on the north bank of the Seversky Donets River. It is the administrative center of Kamensky District. As of the 2010 Census, its population was 94,886.

History

The city was founded in 1671 as a stanitsa (Cossack village) called Kamenskaya. In 1782, it was granted town status and renamed Kamensk. In 1929, it was renamed Kamensk-Shakhtinsky to distinguish it from other cities with the same name.

During the Soviet era, Kamensk-Shakhtinsky was a major center of coal mining and industry. The city was home to several large coal mines and factories.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Kamensk-Shakhtinsky experienced a decline in its economy. Many of the coal mines and factories closed, and the city's population declined.
